A Little About Me: My Story
Among the most common of pests, the cockroach is probably one of the biggest pains to deal with. They are probably one of the hardest to get rid of too once you let them get things going. Why are they such a pain? How hard can it be to get rid of them? Surely there's a best roach killer of some sort that will easily get the job done right? Why would I make such a bold statement about roaches being the hardest to get rid of? Oh boy...here we go...
First off, let me get you started with a little story about my encounter either roaches that still leaves me with some pretty negative feels today, 5 years later. I had just moved into my new apartment. Being a neat freak, the first night, I swept the floors clean. The kitchen floor was clear of all crumbs and the counter tops were spotless (I'm not exaggerating when I spotless too). I really sent a good amount do time scrubbing rings down to be nice and clean.
I was done and turned off the lights to head to back. Well me being a night owl, I ended up staying late into the night. At one point I got hungry and decided to sneak into the kitchen and grab a quick snack. Upon stepping into the kitchen, I felt something squish underneath my foot. Ewwwww! That was all that went through my head. Did I miss something while cleaning it on earlier?
I rushed to the light switch, flipped the lights on and EVERYWHERE there were roaches. They scattered all over the place. Shocked, I just stood there in disgust. Within seconds they were all gone and safely hidden from me. That was the beginning of what would be a 2 yearlong battle for me.
Yes, you read the right. Two years was how long it took me to fight off the majority of those roaches. Let me tell you something. It wasn’t easy getting there. The results were showing very slowly. It took at least a few months before I even started to notice a difference.
Part of the reason why it took so long might have partially been caused by my own ignorance. I didn't know what I was dealing with. If I had known then what I know now, it might have been solved much sooner.
It seemed like no matter how many I kill, more just kept popping up. It seemed like a never ending war. Where every day it seemed like I was losing.
What I didn't know was the stuff I was using was killing them, but I was only killing the adults and the juveniles. The eggs were left safe and sound in locations I can't reach. After the adults and juveniles die off, the eggs would hatch and I would have a new wave of roaches to deal with.
What I didn't realize was I had to target the eggs as well. What I should have done was combine an insect growth regulator, designed so specifically for dealing with eggs and juveniles with a treatment to kill the adults. Had in done that the nightmare might have ended sooner.
